Police received a report from a Milford resident on Concord Avenue who requested officers respond to what they believed to be a fight in the street at about 2 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14, the Milford Police Department reported.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a victim suffering from a severe laceration to his face and began to render aid, police said.
The victim told police he had left his home to check on a "grinding" noise, and was attacked by an unknown suspect wearing a black face mask, according to the report.
Authorities said the suspect entered what was believed to be a silver sedan and fled the scene.
The victim was hospitalized for treatment of "a non-life-threatening but significant injury" and is listed in stable condition, police said.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
The Milford Police Department said it urges residents to refrain from confronting suspects and to call 911 from a safe place instead.
Police asked anyone with information to contact Detective Mahoney at rmahoney@milfordct.gov or 203-783-4727.
